Volunteering
The animal shelter is a volunteer-led organization, and we are always in need of adult volunteers who can commit to helping on a regular basis (we require all volunteers to make a minimum commitment of helping two times a month for a couple hours at a time).
We are not accepting any new volunteers under the age of 18 at this time.
If you love animals and have time to help with feeding, cleaning, and caring for the pets, please fill out our volunteer application and return the completed form to info@medfieldshelter.com. Once we have time to review it, we will contact you to set up training. We love seniors! If you are under age 18, please fill out the volunteer application posted under Community Service.

Please note: We expect all volunteers to help with some of the cleaning tasks, since keeping the entire facility clean is vital to providing a healthy environment for the pets and their caretakers, and is also very time consuming.
Daily Feeding, Care and Cleaning
If you are interested in helping care for the pets, we currently need volunteers to help with breakfast and dinner every day of the week. All volunteers must go through training and then volunteer with experienced volunteers for several weeks before they will be given a key.
Transporting Pets to the Vet
We are always looking for ways to reduce our costs so we can afford to help more pets. One way we do that is by taking advantage of the low cost spay/neuter clinics in the area. We use the Rhode Island Community Spay/Neuter Clinic in Warwick, and Tufts Vet School's Luke and Lily Lerner Clinic They are doing a wonderful service and they are close enough for us to use in addition to our wonderful local vetclinics. One of our many volunteer opportunities is to drive our pets to their surgery appointments or bring them home after. If you can help by driving to or from one of these clinics, please let us know.
Maintenance
Here are just a few of the things that need to be done on an ongoing basis. If you can help with any of these tasks, we really need you!
- laundry -- we always seem to have laundry to do!
- care and feeding of the shrubs and other landscaping
- taking the recycling to the transfer station each week
Community Service
Update 1/31/13 - Due to an overwhelming respose, we are not accepting any new student volunteers at this time. Please check back in early March if you are interested in doing community service hours at the Shelter.
